This painting is quite large – over 22 inches broad, but rather than getting frightened with the size , we have to remember to be relevant with the same principle that we would on a smaller painting, contravention it down into easy stages.

Step 1 – Drawing and opening Layers
On top of you be able to see my pencil drawing on my by now primed canvas.

Step 2
I then am relevant some initial color to the canvas, by plenty of painting average (Liquin) and raw and burnt sienna oil paints.

Step 3
On top of you can see how I have continued to block in the base colors, giving the proposal of where the main stripes will almost certainly be. The painting is beginning to look a little more achievable now most of the canvas has been enclosed with paint.
This step is allowed to dry overnight.

Step 4
At the present I have a base to work in excess of the paints look more opaque this occasion around. Same method, a little liquin added to burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, darkened with Burnt Umber anywhere needed for the fur. It’s significant to remember that some of this step might be seen in the over painting so all the brush strokes should be in the way of fur growth.

Step 5
As additional layers are added under painting facts (our blueprint) can become misplaced, here I am just strengthening the stripe so I can see them more easily.

Step 6
By means of the under painting ended I move on to adding the first layers of fur texture. Using a flat brush on its edge I begin to make marks which propose fur / hair. The important belongings here are – Paint in the direction of fur growth, and start with the under fur then overlap the fur growing on top of it. So in this instance I am operational from the top, to the bottom.

Step 7
The image shows how I am ongoing to work downward the canvas, black go over yellow fur, then yellow goes over black, efficiently overlapping and charitable depth.

Step 8
At this time you can see the ended, first layer of fur texture. You require studying your reference image to get all the fur painting in the right direction but the results are worth it.

Step 9
This image seems like a big jump forward, other than what I have done to create the effect of hair depth is quite simple. By means of the previous layer dry, I applied a very thin coat of Liquin to the entire painting surface – this shaped a slippery, easy to paint surface. I then immediately practical a thin coat of dark brown (Burnt Umber + a little Ultramarine Blue) over the fur area. This effectively made the previous layer the dark under fur. I then wait for that layer to dry before painting fur texture in excess of the top again (as previous page) this shaped another layer of fur and so more depth.

Step 9
The hair texture left looked huge but the color was too light so I on one occasion again applied a extremely thin layer of Liquin then painted on a additional realistic color, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna Mix.

Step 10
The image on top of shows the come to an ended painting, here I have applied one more glazing layer of paint to get a richer color’s hope you have enjoyed the demo of this theatrical Oil Study.
